About Z Advocacy NFP

Z Advocacy NFP is a registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization dedicated to expanding access, resources, and celebrating the lived experiences of individuals within the disability community.

Our Mission

Z Advocacy NFP's mission is to champion disability rights through education, community building, and direct advocacy. We work to break down barriers — physical, social, and systemic — that prevent people with disabilities from living full, self-determined lives.

Our Values

  • Nothing About Us Without Us: People with disabilities lead our organization and guide every decision.
  • Intersectional Inclusion: We honor the full spectrum of disability experience, including the ways disability intersects with race, gender, sexuality, age, and socioeconomic status.
  • Community First: We invest in local relationships and build programs that directly serve the communities where we live and work.
  • Transparency & Accountability: We operate openly and are accountable to the disability community we serve.
  • Celebration & Pride: We believe disability is something to be celebrated, not hidden. Disability Pride is at the heart of everything we do.

Our Work

Z Advocacy NFP's work spans several areas:

  • Community Events: Organizing Disability Pride celebrations and awareness events across the region.
  • Education & Training: Providing accessibility training and disability awareness education to businesses, schools, and civic organizations.
  • Individual Advocacy: Supporting individuals with disabilities in navigating systems, accessing services, and asserting their rights.
  • Policy & Systemic Change: Working with local and state officials to advance inclusive policies and practices.

The Crystal Lake Disability Pride Event

The Crystal Lake Disability Pride Event was launched in 2025 as a direct response to the need for visible, joyful disability representation in McHenry County. What started as a grassroots gathering has grown into a signature annual event that brings together hundreds of attendees, vendors, sponsors, and community partners.

This 2nd Annual event continues to build on the legacy of the first year, expanding programming, vendor participation, and community reach — all while keeping accessibility and disability pride at its center.

Leadership & Event Committee

The Crystal Lake Disability Pride Event is planned and organized by a dedicated committee of volunteers, advocates, and community members:
